Lactic notes and relatively pungent reduction knock down the nose but the concentrated, full-bodied and tautly muscled flavors possess both good detail and excellent underlying material and culminate in a powerful finish where the extract buries the dense and slightly rustic tannins. Vinous:
(13.3% natural alcohol) Good medium red. Compelling, nuanced aromas of raspberry, smoky underbrush, game, minerals and dried rose. Dense and ripe, with sappy, peppery notes that really vibrate in the mouth. There's a sexy, savory umami quality and captivating soil tones here that really caught my attention. Serious tannins are hidden today but will require extended cellaring. The early malo makes this easier to taste today than a number of Confuron's other cuvees. Rating 91-94/100. -Stephen Tanzer-
