The 2001 Barolo Carobric comes across as silky, perfumed and utterly impeccable. Sweet red berries, flowers and spices are woven together beautifully in this fragrant Barolo. Readers who enjoy more tertiary notes may want to cellar the 2001 for a few more years as the fruit is still quite primary, but the wine drink well today because of its textural finesse. The Carobric is a blend of fruit sourced from Rocche di Castiglione (60%), Bric del Fiasc (25%) and Cannubi (15%). Anticipated maturity: 2012-2026. Rating 94/100. - Antonio Galloni –

Vinous:

(from Cannubi, Rocche di Castiglione and Bric del Fiasc, blended after their period of aging in wood) Good full red. Very spicy, Burgundian aromas of red and black fruits, Havana tobacco and meat. Fat and full on the palate, if less refined and perfumed than the Cannubi. A chunky, chewy style of Barolo that finishes with big, building tannins and very good length. Jancis Robinson:

Mature mid ruby with orange rim. Unusual and distinct almost iodine nose with notes of sweet spice and leather. Surprisingly backward on the palate and impressively balanced with waves of grainy tannins framing the minerally fruit. Drink Date 2016-2038. Rating 17+/20. – Walter Speller –
