48 % Merlot, 46 % Cabernet Sauvignon, 6 % Petit Verdot. Ertrag nur 28 Hektoliter pro Hektar. Etwa 100'000 Flaschen Palmer. Extrem dunkles Purpur mit lila und violetten Reflexen. Höllisches Cassisbouquet, viel Lakritze, Schwarztee, eine tiefe Würze zeigend und gleichzeitig einen finessenreichen, dramatischen Merlotpower in der Nase aufweisend. Im Gaumen bleibt der Wein völlig schwarzbeerig, hat viel Saft in den Tanninen und eine royale Adstringenz, im Finale Aromen von Dörrbananen. Wie sagte der alte Kellermeister von Latour Jean-Paul Gardère jeweils? "Si un vin sent de la Banane - c'est un grand vin!" Recht hatte er mit seiner Bananen-Theorie! (19/20). The 2012 Palmer is already offering demonstrative drinking at age 10, bursting with aromas of cherries, blackberries, violets and spices, framed by a lavish application of creamy new oak. Full-bodied, ample and enveloping, it's fleshy and sensual, with a deep and layered core of fruit that's discreetly underpinned by succulent acids and sweet, powdery tannins. Concentrated, broad and persistent, this is one of the most successful wines of the vintage, as well as one of the most dramatic. Thomas Duroux is crafting more integrated, less overtly oaky wines at Palmer today, but this 2012 is nonetheless a terrific effort. Drink Date 2022-2045. Rating 95/100. -William Kelley-

Vinous:

The 2012 Palmer is silky, voluptuous and beautifully layered in the glass. Black cherry, plum, mocha, bittersweet chocolate and dark spices flesh out in a decidedly opulent, racy Palmer built on pure texture. Silky, tannins round out the polished, suave finish. The 2012s at Palmer are made from unusually low yields of around 28 hectoliters per hectare. One of the effects of the 2011 hailstorm that hit the estate was a lowering of the following year's crop, which has resulted in rich, tannic wines. Estate Manager Thomas Duroux opted to give the 2012s more time in barrel than is customary and the wines were bottled in September 2014. Drink Date 2022-2042. Rating 94/100. -Antonio Galloni-

This is mind-blowing with complex and superb aromas of dried flowers, blackcurrants and raspberries. Full-bodied, yet polished and velvety with lots of tension and intensity. Layers of fruit and character. Finishes with pure fruit, hazelnuts and minerals. About 20 hectares of 55 hectares were from biodynamically grown grapes. Try in 2022. Stunning. (48% Merlot, 46% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Petit Verdot. 21 Monate Ausbau, 50-60% Neuholz, der zweite Teil des Ausbaus findet in grossen Fässern von Stockinger und Seguin-Moreau statt). Kräftiges Rubinrot. Die Nase ist eine kleine Droge, expressiv, verspielt, tiefgründig und mit feiner Würze, florale Noten ergänzen die reife, dunkle Frucht, Cassis, Kirschen und Pflaumenaromen ergänzen mineralische Anklänge. Im Gaumen rund und weich, verführerisch, mit seidenweichen Tanninen, einer feinen Säure und ungemein viel Charme, der Wein tänzelt über die Zunge, wird im mittleren Gaumen immer eleganter und hallt im Abgang sehr lange nach. Ein nobler Wein, der das ungeschriebene Gesetz untermalt, dass Bordeaux-Weine nach 10 Jahren in ein gutes Trinkfenster kommen. Ab sofort bis 2040+, 95/100 vvPunkte. -Adrian van Velsen – vvWine.ch-
