A pretty and admirably fresh red berry fruit nose is cut with obvious earth, underbrush and animale hints that also characterize the relatively powerful and broad-shouldered flavors that possess outstanding depth of material as well as knockout length. This is a very, very serious effort that will need ample cellar time but it should be a real stunner with sufficient bottle age. Rating 94/100. -Allen Meadows’ Burghound.com-
Vinous:
Good full red. Very ripe aromas of dark berry jam, musky coffee and smoke; almost syrah-like. A big, rich, sweet style of 2008: I'm not sure I would have picked the vintage. Superripe and voluminous wine with a very long, broad finish and the tannins of a riper year. This has put on considerable weight since I tasted it from barrel in November of 2009. Yves Confuron maintains that the 2009 version will be more complex following its elevage, but today I prefer this wine, which is less extreme in comparison. Rating 91/100. -Stephen Tanzer-
