A ripe and wonderfully elegant nose that is quite dense revolves around layered red berry fruit aromas nuanced by a cascade of floral, earth, smoke, meat and spice hints that is followed by generous yet detailed broad-shouldered flavors that curiously manage to be both tender and firm on the classy, long and energetic finish. This will need up to 20 years to reach its full potential so this definitely will not be an early drinker. Rating 95/100. -Allen Meadows’ Burghound.com-
Vinous:
Bright, deep red-ruby. Precise but restrained aromas of cassis, black raspberry, violet and licorice. Powerful, slightly peppery acidity gives this wine a youthfully tight structure, but there's just enough buffering sweetness here to provide balance. A distinctly powerful style of Charmes (like the '09 here) with a very long, floral finish displaying excellent lift. I'd like to come back to this one in ten years. Rating 94+/100. -Stephen Tanzer-
