The wood treatment has not yet fully integrated as it seems to be sitting on top of the otherwise spicy red and black pinot and cassis aromas that possess excellent depth. There is very good, indeed the best in the range, phenolic ripeness to the rich and tautly muscular flavors that possess good volume as well as lovely balance. This should be quite fine in time. The Echezeaux is another superb, harmonious 2008 from Gilles Jayer. This, too, is rather tightly wound, but with time in the glass, the wine gradually sheds some of its tannic heft. Crushed rocks, flowers, red berries and sweet spices are some of the nuances that spin out from a taut, wiry, yet deeply expressive frame. The finish boasts impeccable harmony and class. Vinous:

Bright, full red. Sappy black cherry, cocoa powder and minerals on the perfumed nose. Silky, rich and large-scaled for the vintage, conveying an impression of density without weight. Not hugely sweet but boasts terrific energy and a tight core of fruit. Finishes with serious tannins and mounting floral tones. I like this style. Rating 92+/100. -Stephen Tanzer-
