Robert Parker Wine Advocate:
Much more open knit, textured and sexy than a bottle tasted earlier in the year, the 2005 Ermitage le Meal is one fruit-loaded, rich and full-bodied beauty that offers classic notes of black raspberries, charcoal, peppery herbs and licorice. Possessing a voluptuous, layered mid-palate, ripe tannin and beautiful purity, this is a sensational Hermitage that can be enjoyed today with considerable pleasure, yet will keep for another two to three decades. Drink Date 2015-2045. Rating 96/100. - Jeb Dunnuck -
Vinous:
Bright red. Intensely floral, room-filling bouquet of strawberry, raspberry and smoky minerals. Deep and sweet but incredibly focused and pure, with luscious red berry preserve flavors, silky tannins and terrific mineral lift. Seems to gain depth on the finish, with the sweet red fruit qualities echoing. This is all about the fruit today. Rating 94/100. - Josh Raynolds -
James Suckling:
Some riper and more exotic, tropical fruits in the pawpaw zone with ripe mangoes and peaches, too. The palate has stony-mineral depth, all swathed in ripe-fruit flesh and flavor. Plenty of peach and papaya. Very focused finish and some handy restraint to this. From organically grown grapes. Rating 95/100. -JamesSuckling.com-
Jancis Robinson:
Some very rich, black fruit elements here. Quite aromatic and then very rich and velvety on the palate. It’s the finish that keeps it dry rather than sweet. Sandy tannins. Zesty. Lots of excitement there. This spreads fully across the palate. A very complete wine indeed. Pretty neat tannins and obvious oak influence here. Fifty year old vines on stony, clay, mid level vineyards. Drink Date 2015-2030. Rating 19/20. – Jancis Robinson –
