Allen Meadows’ Burghound.com:
A trace of reduction mixes with ripe red berry fruit that is liberally laced with earth, underbrush and a dollop of wood influence that introduces extremely rich, round, full-bodied and powerful flavors that possess plenty of volume and a seductive mouth feel as it brims with dry extract that renders the moderately firm tannins almost invisible. The reduction was mildly annoying but my rating assumes that it is a function of the relatively recent bottling. Rating 93/100. -Allen Meadows’ Burghound.com-
Robert Parker Wine Advocate:
Tasted at the Denis Mortet Chambertin vertical, the 2008 Chambertin Grand Cru has a really quite lovely nose that is so pure and perhaps it represents the first Chambertin from Arnaud Mortet that unequivocally exudes terroir expression. In a nutshell - this just smells of Chambertin - it takes the taster there. The palate is medium-bodied with pastille-like purity, a fine-boned Chambertin with black cherries and subtle cassis notes, sorbet fresh towards the long and sensual finish. This is an excellent Chambertin that I envisage will come into its own with another 4-5 years in bottle. Tasted January 2016. Drink Date 2020-2040. Rating 94/100. -Neal Martin-
Vinous:
(malo finished in September) Good dark red. Medicinal black fruits, iron, minerals and menthol on the nose. Sweet and juicy but youthfully imploded; the most delicate of these 2008s but also powerful and tightly wound. Spreads out impressively on the long, rising finish. Undeniably sweet but this will need extended bottle aging. Rating 91-94/100. -Stephen Tanzer-
Jancis Robinson:
Bright cherry colour. The nose seems a tiny bit tired (a cask sample problem?) but there is lots of energy and it certainly wants to please. It’s almost like a yapping dog and wagging its tail. It’s not fine yet but I suspect it will become so. Rating 17.5/20. -Jancis Robinson-
