Ripe, silky tannins provide the backdrop for expressive dark red fruit, spices and flowers. The 2009 is seamless and impeccable from start to finish. Vinous:

Bright ruby-red. Brooding aromas of dark berries, black olive, licorice, dark chocolate and minerals. Densely packed, sweet and deep but also tightly wound and quite primary, offering excellent penetration and lift to its sharply delineated flavors of blue and purple berries, licorice and violet. Finishes firmly tannic and long. This extremely young and impressive wine, which has tightened up considerably since the last time I tasted it, will need at least several more years in the cellar to expand and should be long-lived.
