Ohne Petit Verdot! Wer Palmer 1997, 1998 und 1999 gekauft hat, wird mit der Lieferung auch ein kleines bisschen Petit Verdot in der Assemblage mitgeliefert bekommen haben. Nicht so beim Jahrgang 2000. Er hatte einfach nicht die Klasse und die Finesse, um irgendwo in einer Assemblage integriert zu werden. Nicht einmal beim Alter Ego. Trotzdem ist das kein Manko für den Grand Vin, der Cabernet war so kleinbeerig und hatte so dicke Schalen, dass er dies locker kompensieren wird. 01: Fassprobe (19/20): Dunkles Kirschrot-Purpur mit lila Schimmer. Tiefgründiges Edelholzbouquet, Cassis, Brombeeren, Trüffel, Tabak, noch verschlossen, aber kompakte Anlagen zeigend. Ein mundvoll Margaux im Gaumen; rund, üppig, samtig mit einem rot-, blau- und schwarzbeerigen Spiel, wiederum viel Maulbeeren, sehr dicht, die Gerbstoffe zeigen bereits fette Rundungen, die Frucht ist just reif, aber nicht überreif und gibt diesem Palmer so eine klassische Statur und grossartige Charakteristik, schwarze Schokonoten und wieder Brombeeren im lange nachhallenden Finale. Ein Top-Wein, der Parallelen zum Jahrgang 1985 hat, vielleicht aber gar noch in einer perfekteren Form. Auch damals schon kam es zu einem Kopf an Kopf Rennen zwischen Palmer und Château Margaux. Beim Jahrgang 1985 ist es heute mittlerweile der Palmer, welcher kurz vor der Ziellinie ist. Bewertung 18/20. -René Gabriel-

Tasted at the Château Palmer vertical in London, the 2000 Château Palmer was closed for a number of years, but it appears to be finally opening. Deep in colour, there remains a slight broodiness on the nose, although it loses its inhibitions and develops potent blackberry, strawberry and mint aromas, perhaps just a smudge of camphor. It is unashamedly rich on the entry: intense and vibrant with layers of black cherry and cassis fruit pierced by a fine line of acidity. This millennial tightens everything up towards the, finish whereupon it reverts to something much more classic in style, long and tensile. It does not quite occupy the same class as the 2005 or the imperial 2010, but it certainly has long-term potential. My advice? Give it another 4-5 years in the cellar. Tasted May 2015. Vinous:

Good full ruby-red. Knockout nose combines blackberry, violet, espresso, graphite and licorice. Then impressively sweet in the mouth, even slightly roasted; comes across as rather aggressive following the leaner, high-pitched 2002. Extremely rich, full Palmer but a bit brutal today, and not currently showing the perfume it displayed from barrel. The wine's substantial but ripe tannins call for at least six or seven years of bottle aging. Rating 91+/100. -Stephen Tanzer-

Winespectator:

Still tight, with a core of black currant, blackberry and plum fruit flavors that is quite youthful, while hints of dried anise, tobacco and singed alder are starting to peek through on the finish. There's a really vibrant iron note cutting through the finish too. Hold off for now.--Blind 2000 Bordeaux retrospective (December 2015). Rating 96/100. -JM-

Jancis Robinson:

Mid blackish crimson. Light, very fine, mature nose that has more than a hint of old fashioned claret with lightly tarry note that segues into the cusp of floral and fruity. Certainly very light and fragrant – good old fashioned Margaux. Beautiful balance. Long and silky. Dry finish after lovely sweet fruit. The antithesis of bodybuilder wine.
