With fruit from the Altare family's historic vineyard, with rows that descend from the panoramic terrace in front of the tasting room, comes the 2019 Barolo Arborina. This wine boasts a unique flavor profile with more emphasis on tart fruit, cassis and crisp cherry. The wine is soft and velvety to the palate, and it shows finely integrated tannins coupled with a solid textural frame. Arborina is not one of the historic crus of the appellation, but it is an excellent site that is celebrated for its consistent wines. Drink Date 2025-2042. Rating 95/100. – Monica Larner –

Vinous:

The 2019 Barolo Arborina is laced with dark cherry, graphite, dried flowers and licorice. It is an especially dark, almost somber Arborina, with huge, incisive tannins that aare quite dominant at this stage. It will be interesting to see how the 2019 ages. Based on several decades of tasting these wines, I thin it will age quite wellm but remain a brooding powerhouse. Drink Date 2029-2049. Rating 94/100. – Antonio Galloni –

Jancis Robinson:

Translucent ruby. Perfumed raspberry with lift. Fragrant and long and with a layer of long, fine-ground tannins that go on and on. Elegant but still compact, while the tannins add depth as they cling to the elegant, fragrant fruit. Drink Date 2026 – 2038. Rating 17,5/ 20. – Walter Speller –

Strahlendes Rubingranat. Duftende Nase, fein gezeichnet, leicht erdig, Walderdbeeren, Blutorange, gedörrtes Rosenblatt, kühl. Am Gaumen mit kernigem, sehr saftigem Tannin, druckvoll, elegant, präzise, im Finale wohlig mundwässernd. Rating 95/100. - Othmar Kiem & Simon Staffler –

Elio Altare:

Die Kellerei wurde 1948 vom Grossvater Giuseppe Altare gekauft. Am Anfang wurde neben den Reben auch Pfirsiche, Äpfel und Haselnüsse bearbeitet. 1976 tritt der heutige Inhaber Elio in die Kellerei ein und entschied, das ganze Gut mit Reben zu bepflanzen. Die ersten Jahre von Elio im Betrieb wurden von der schweren Krise in Italien geprägt. Keine einfache Zeit für die Weinbauern im Piemont. So entschloss sich Elio mit einigen Freunden im gleichen Jahr das Wunder der Burgunder-Vinifikation für sich zu entdecken. Die Reise nach Frankreich motivierte ihn dermassen, dass er die traditionelle Vinifikation auf der Seite liess und sich Neuem zuwandte. Der bis heute andauernde Erfolg seiner Weine haben ihm Recht gegeben. Die Produktion beläuft sich auf ca. 70‘000 Flaschen. Elio Altare erhielt mehrmals von Gambero Rosso die Auszeichnung Tre Bicchieri und für seinen Barolo Brunate 2004 gar 97 Punkte von Robert Parker.

Rubinrot mit granatroten Reflexen; Duft von reifen Kirschen, Brombeeren und dezenten Vanillearomen; am Gaumen sehr elegant und von guter Struktur; leicht süssliche Tannine im langen Nachhall.
