On first nose, the 2016 Bolgheri Superiore Marianova (equal parts Syrah and Sangiovese) shows savory and barbecue-like aromas with teriyaki sauce and hickory smoke followed by plummy fruit and blackberry preserves. There is a note of sweetness with lots of spice, leather and tobacco at the edges. Of Michele Satta's releases, this wine is the most unlike him in that it is the most contemporary and enriched. This is the second vintage of Marianova (the winery’s latest creation) to be released. Only 3,250 bottles were made. Drink Date 2020-2035. Rating 95/100. – Monica Larner –
Vinous:
The 2016 Bolgheri Superiore Marianova is another gorgeous wine in Michele Satta's range. The aromatics and structure of Sangiovese meld together beautifully with the darker fruit and power of Syrah. Super-ripe black cherry, smoke, chocolate, licorice, menthol and dark spice build in a potent, layered wine that has so much to offer. Drind Date 2020-2030. Rating 93/100. - Antonio Galloni -
