This is a beautiful expression of coastal Tuscany and the sunny Mediterranean. The Ornellaia 2019 Bolgheri Superiore Ornellaia (a blend of 62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 31% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot) pours from the bottle with a specific darkness that has elements of both inky saturation and ruby highlights. The wine is saturated and rich—this is something you notice off the bat—but it also reveals a pleasing lightness or grace that is transmitted to both the bouquet and the palate. Dark fruit, pressed blackberry and plum mingle with more substantial aromas of spice, leather and sweetly cured tobacco. The tannins are beautifully managed, and the wine sports considerable heft and density on the palate that drives a very long and pleasurable mouthfeel. Drink Date 2025-2048. Vinous:

The 2019 Ornellaia is one of the most elegant wines I have ever tasted here. All the elements are so well-balanced. Dark and racy, with fabulous class and pedigree to burn, the 2019 is superb from the very first taste. Dark plum, mocha, new leather, licorice and spice build over time, but it is the wine's stunning finesse that impresses most. The 2019 has the highest percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon since the 2002. That very much comes through in the wine's vibrancy and aromatic presence. Drink Date 2027-2049. Rating 97+/100. –Antonio Galloni–

James Suckling:

The aromas of blackcurrants, fresh basil and thyme, as well as cedar and sandalwood are so attractive. It’s full-bodied and very linear with tight tannins that draw you down the length of this young wine. Wet-earth and cool-stone undertones. It’s solid and so structured. Full bottle 1,327 g. This year's release is known as La Proporzione. Blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Merlot, 13% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot from a year in which cold and rain alternated with extended hot and dry periods but temperatures fell towards harvest, which was welcome. Aged in 70% new barriques for about 18 months.
Deep, lustrous crimson. Very sumptuous nose followed up by a hedonistic palate that finishes especially fresh. Ripe but not too-ripe fruit – a drier (much less sweet) vintage than usual which should age well. Unusually, there is some vestige of tannin on the finish. It's certainly possible to drink now if it's aerated before serving but ideally, I'd keep this awhile. Savoury persistence. Drink Date 2024-2038. Rating 18/20. –Jancis Robinson– 

Adrian van Velsen - vvWine.ch: 

(62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 31% Merlot, 4% Petit Verdot, 3% Cabernet Franc. Eine Woche alkoholische Gärung, teils in Edelstahltanks, teils in Zementwannen bei Temperaturen zwischen 26 und 30 Grad, gefolgt von 15 Tagen auf der Maische. Die malolaktische Gärung fand hauptsächlich in zu 70% neuen und zu 30% gebrauchten Eichen-Barriques statt. Insgesamt 18 Monate Fassausbau, wobei die Assemblage nach rund 12 Monaten geschieht, so dass der assemblierte Wein weitere 6 Monate in den Fässern schlummern kann.) Kräftiges, leuchtendes Rubinrot. Offene, warm anmutende Nase, viel reife Frucht, noble Röstnoten, Anflüge von Weihnachtsgewürzen und Pflaumen, Feigen, Brombeeren, Rosmarin sowie florale Töne gesellen sich in den Reigen ein. Im Gaumen rund und bereits wunderbar zugänglich, ein wahrer Charmeur, vollmundig, reiffruchtig, mit viel Schmelz und Kraft, gleichzeitig jedoch frisch und äusserst lebendig, die delikate Frucht wird von perfekt reifen Gerbstoffen umgarnt, die Säure ist eher moderat, doch der Wein ist keinesfalls üppig, präsentiert sich tänzerisch elegant. Im Abgang hinterlässt der Wein dunkelfruchtige Aromen sowie eine feine Würze. Ein warmherziger, finessenreicher Wein, der ab sofort und vor allem in jeder Phase seines Lebens grossen Genuss bieten dürfte. Trinkreife jetzt bis 2040+.
