02: Tiefes Violett-Purpur mit fast schwarzen Reflexen. Tiefgründiges Bouquet mit rauchigem Cassis, Edelhölzern, Tabak- und Kandisnoten; wirkt enorm tief, jedoch nicht sehr kommunikativ in der Nase. Fester, stoffiger Gaumen, blau- und schwarzbeeriges Spiel, viel Cassis, sattes Extrakt, enorme Würze und eine deutliche Cabernet Franc-Anzeige, Heidelbeeren im wiederum leicht rauchigen Finish. Ein klassischer, langlebiger Eglise-Clinet mit viel Konzentration und ein wahrer Kraftakt, dennoch nicht ganz so opulent wie andere, ebenso grosse Jahrgänge. Braucht viel Zeit und wird im Gaumenvolumen durch den Fassausbau noch zulegen – denn dann gehört er zu den Leadern des Jahrganges. Die Säure ist um Nuancen tiefer oder wirkt halt einfach reifer. Für mich klar besser als der Jahrgang 2000 (19/20). Trinkreife 2013-2037. Bewertung 19/20. -René Gabriel-

The Château l'Eglise-Clinet 2001, which was served from magnum, is a worthy follow-up to the millennial release and might be unfairly overshadowed by it. The 2001 has a slightly lighter and more feminine bouquet, but it delivers the same level of beguiling delineation and crystalline raspberry and cranberry fruit. This has a Burgundy-like purity, very harmonious in the mouth with very fine acidity. There is a sense of harmony interwoven into this Pomerol—a gentle build towards the lightly spiced, truffle-tinged finish that will put a smile on any wine-lover's face. One of the prettiest wines under Denis Durantou's reign, it might not have the prowess of the 2000, but it has plenty of class. Tasted March 2015. Drink Date 2017-2035. Rating 94/100. -Neal Martin-

Drank this at Robuchon restaurant in Macau. The three-star Michelin restaurant is amazing and has one of the best wine lists in the world. This res is so sexy. Look for 2001 Pomerol. A wine with layers of aromas of licorice, dark chocolate and berries. Violets. Full to medium body with very fine tannins and a long finish. Just coming around. Pure pleasure. Rating 94/100.
