Robert Parker Wine Advocate:
The 2005 Solaia is elegant and refined, yet it remains incredibly primary. Still, it is hard not to admire the wine’s layered expression of blue and black fruits. The oak remains prominent, but I am confident the wine will come together with bottle age. The Solaia vineyard is one of the most unique terroirs in Italy, and the wine has a track record of developing beautifully in bottle, even in smaller vintages. It will be fascinating to follow this Solaia as it matures. Rating 93/100. -Antonio Galloni-
Vinous:
A deep, dense wine, the 2005 Solaia is still in its infant stage. The cool vintage produced slow-maturing wines. Nowhere is that more evident than in Solaia, a wine that retains exceptional freshness. Graphite, plum, smoke, licorice and menthol meld into the dark, brooding finish. In 2005, Solaia is a bit more refined than Tignanello, but both wines are impressive. Drink Date 2015-2030. Rating 94/100. -Antonio Galloni-
Jancis Robinson:
Tasted blind. 20% Sangiovese. Subtle colour. Sweet with some obvious but very smart oak on the nose. But then quite dry. Just a little drying on the finish. Not sure about the oak here. Pretty drying on the finish. Rating 17/20. -Jancis Robinson-
